Fredericksburg (TX), February 2nd, 2003

Come with us and visit Fredericksburg, TX, a small town 70 miles northwest of Austin, TX
Population ~ 6900

... we heard about this town and that it is a 'German Colony' with German restaurants and shops. So, we planned to see it and find out how much of the old culture is still alive thousands of miles away from Germany. And here we are..
..standing at a sign with the letters
'E Mainstreet' and 'Hauptstrasse'
We also found a church close to the Haupstrasse called 'Vereins Kirche'
There are more German traces we found during our visit. There are severel German style restaurants with 'Biergaerten'..
..as you can see on these pictures. The weather was beautifull and perfect to sit outside and enjoy the day. Of course...there are also typical western style shops and restaurants. The above picture shows a nice bed.. unfortunately, it didn't fit into the trunk of our car!
We also found the 'Kuechen Laden' (I can't even write the German letters as shown on the sign with my US keyboard) and we spent some time in that little shop

We had our dinner in the local brewery listening to German live music before we continued to walk through the town. There are still some places we haven't seen so far and we will come back again to spend more time. We left Fredericksburg at about 2:00 pm and continued our tour to Sant Antonio, our favorite town in the are. Sant Antonio is about 70 miles south west of Fredericksburg. We found a parking lot close to the Hard Rock Cafe and walked along the river for a while.
